A Lost Palomino

Paula writes

I used to own a 1979 VW Palomino and I am desperately trying to trace it. I would love to know what has become of it.

It was my first VW and I loved it so much, I didn't want to sell it but had to at the time as the engine blew and I just didn't have the money to get it repaired/replaced. I have regretted selling it ever since :-(

The registration number was UWL 359T.

My worst fear is that he has been butchered and sold for spares as his tax ran out in March and he is registered to trade, I am hoping that that is not the case and that hopefully someone is restoring him, I may never know.

Have you seen Boris?

Hi Pippa,

Thanks :-)

Still no joy with the search, I am trying to find a friendly policeman who may be able to help me find it ;-)

I will keep you posted.

Another fantastic result on ebay,I found a set of original palomino cushions that fit above the engine bay/behind the rear seats,I used to rely on old sofa cushions which aren't massively comfortable!
They also came with the original seat covers, which are in great condition aswell. I spoke to the seller on the phone, apparently she had bought a palomino and converted it to a pop top for camper hire purposes, any luck finding boris? Just for interests sake, the ebay seller came from Lancashire.
With regard to finding out if boris,or any other vehicle,is still in existance with the same reg no,if you go to askmid you can check if its on the vehicle insurance database,ie presently insured, you can also go to the dvla website to see if its presently taxed, let's hope the boris mystery can be solved!

Hi all,
Are there any members out there interested in purchasing an original 1980 type2 Palomino complete with original fittings and lots of historical paperwork? Mechanically sound, used regularly but a bit tatty. We have had it for about eight years now and it has racked up 93,000 miles - 3,500 of which was spent travelling across Europe a year ago - over the Swiss Alps and down to Sorrento and back with no problems.

20 years ago my BF at the time and me took one of these (We called it a VW poptops?) from California all the way down to Guerrero Negro in the heart of Baja California. I remember it was a 1979 vintage. Great times, these are the ideal road trip vehicle.

(How the heck are you Ian?!!)
