Hi Kate, i'm still here, my Veedub should be back in the land of the living as of this Weekend.
I've fitted an electric fuel pump to it and the real test will be on Sunday! Lets hope it starts etc etc.
How r we all?
Now i've got an awning, we're thinking of heading off camping on Xmas Eve and having a Palomino cooked Xmas Dinner, i know it sounds mad, but why not eh?
Any recommendations on portable heaters? Any news on Claude? How's your bus going these days Ian?

Hi, Palomino Posse! I'm still out here too! I'm just having to sit at home, totally camper-less, with no Stan, and worse still, no Claude, which is pretty miserable! I hate pulling up onto the drive and not seeing my van there.

So anyway, I don't think your Christmas idea sounds mad Alex - I think it sounds fun - and well worth a few photos and a write up in Camper and Bus magazine!

Did your Palomino start up then, Alex? As for portable heaters, I usually try to get an electric hook-up, so I just take a normal small fan heater (Tesco have some very reasonable little ceramic fan heaters in at the minute). But if you mean gas ones, then I don't know what's available - if there's no electricity I just fire up the gas hob for a while!

Kate, how's Polly? Done anything else to her recently? Any good Vanfest photos?

Hi all, the new electric fuel pump is totally ready now for the start up test, i tried to start the old bus but the Battery was flat, it's fully charged now though, so hopefully all should go to plan and it should start.
I had a few niggling little problems with a few small leaks, but eventually we decided to renew all of the old fuel pipe, just to be on the safe side!
The big test will be this Sunday, i will keep you all posted.
Another thing of interest which is worth mentioning, i was in Bosham yesterday(near Chichester)and i spied two Vee Dubs, parked behind a few houses, the first being a tin top type 2, the second one was a Palomino Type 25!
I had a quick look inside the Palomino but unfortunately the rear interior had been stripped out, just as i drove off, i saw a couple of woman jump into it and they appeared to be restoring/working on it.
I'm back there on Thursday, so hopefully i might catch them for a chat.

Also, just before i forget...
With regards to heating etc, my Palomino doesn't have an electric hook up, so i guess it'll have to be some kind of gas heater i need, how many of the other Palominos out there have electric hook ups?

Great News! The new electric fuel pump works perfectly!
It started first turn of the key and is totally leak free, i think the rough running of my Volks has been down to the fuel pump gradually losing its effectivness.

Well done. We don't have electric hook up yet but it is something we want to do. Do you get out much during the winter months. This is our first winter and we are just planning day runs out I think. Unless I can get Guy to change his ways.

Hi, i used my Vw all the way through last Winter, it can prove to be a bit chilly, although i found a couple of small holes in the Heat Exchangers that reduced the efficiency of the heater, once i'd patched them up, the heater kept things a little bit warmer.
I'm hoping my Vw will be back on the road after Xmas, it's all up and running now, but doesn't have an MOT, what's the latest on everyone elses buses? Any Claude News? Who will be using there Vw's through the Winter?

HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL!

Hi all!
Alex, you really seem to know what you're doing with all the mechnical bits! I'd given up on my heater long ago, and just assumed that heaters never work in old VWs anyway, but now you seem to have got yours all fixed up, maybe there's hope for Claude after all, wehen I get him back!

And amazingly, there's now some movement on the Claude front! The guy called me and said all of the welding's now done - all nice new metal, no rust and no filler, and now he's going to be working on smoothing it all out and prepping Claude for his new paint job in the new year. Sounds promising! I'll have him back for the start of the new camping season - wayhay!

As for electric hook-ups, it's quite expensive to get it all done professionally- it cost me over £500 for Stan, with all the parts etc. For Claude, I just had a local garage pop a double socket above the base cupboard the 'kitchen area', with a lead that goes behind and comes out into the gas box. There's a small notch cut out of the gas box door so that it can shut when the cable is outside. It works perfectly well and cost £15.

I've had a few mails from Tom over in Belgium. His Palomino is still going strong despite an oil-leak, ad he's even starting up his own club over there for High-top campers called the 'Skyscrapers'. Good name! He has a friend who's done a fantastic computer graphic of Tom's Palomino, and he's offered to do a graphic for all of our Palominos, free of charge, if we send Tom some photos and descriptions.

I'll add my 'Happy Christmas' wishes to Alex's - have a good one everybody!

Happy New Year!

Kate said...

Hello everyone, Have you any plans for show this year?

pippa said...

Hello and Happy New Year!
As soon as I get Claude back, I'll be going to every show I can get to! I can't wait to get back out there - talk about withdrawal symptoms!

But I did get a call last week from the guy who's restoring Claude, and things are progressing well, apparently. So when my fiance's back on leave next month, we're off up there to check on how he's doing, and I'll get a few photos - Ian, will you be able to post them for me?

I'll be going to Bus Types, 18/19 April (that's my target date for getting Claude back), and Vanfest's a definite this year - I've even booked the time off work already!

Anyone else dong anything? How about Beachbuggin', Alex - is it back on this year?

Pippa
Ps - Gemma, on the photo of your Palomino there seems to be a classic mini lurking in the garage? Is it yours? I love them!

Hi everyone, is there anybody out there?
My Vw is getting ready for MOT, the electric fuel pump works a treat and after we adjusted the timing, she's never run so well in her life!
I still haven't used/set up my new awning, so we're all looking forward to our Week away this Year, with the added space etc.
How's Claude these days? He must be finished or atleast near completion now?
How about all the other Palominos out there?

Kate said...

We are fine, Polly is having some welding done this week ready for her MOT in early May. Engine running well now but she likes to be run once a week or she has a sulk.

Hi!
I'm still here! Glad to hear your Palominos are up and running OK.

I'm still Claude-less at the moment, but we went to up to see him a couple of weeks ago. He still looked a long way from completion, but all his main work was done. Now, at last, he's in primer and I sent the paint codes up to the guy this weekend so he can start putting the paint on, so hopefully it shouldn't be too long now! Then it's a matter of new carbs, an MOT and road tax.

I'm getting really excited. I've bought 2 beige leather Saab seats for the cab, and I'm looking for new curtain material now, because he's changing colour to match my 1961 Vespa. So he'll be GN40 Glen Green with the top half in L90D Pastel White. I really hope it looks OK. It's a great colour on the scooter, but I've no idea if it'll look too dull on a camper van. Actually, I don't care as long as I have him back!

Anyone else off to Bus Types or Vanfest this year?

Kate said...

Sorry I missed you at BusTypes Pippa. Hoped you like Polly. After all the hassle my brother has given me about t25's he has asked to borrow her again in a few weeks.
Can't wait to see Claud. Take care. x

Hi!

Yes - shame you'd gone, Kate. I saw that unmistakeable roof on the top of that hill, and thought straight away it might be your camper! Never mind, your brother was really friendly, and I got to have a good look at Polly anyway - she's great, and in really nice condition inside and out. It was good to speak to you (oops - I used the last bit of your brother's phone battery!)and it'll be great to meet you at Vanfest, anyway.

I also saw Stan, my other van, there at the show, and he's still looking good too. Just got to wait the few weeks until Claude's ready now. Claude has some paint on now, so things are moving at last, and I bought 2 new Weber ICT carbs for him, and all new fuel pipes, so he should go pretty well when they're fitted. I'm supposed to be getting him back next month. I've heard that before, but I'm hopeful this time!
I'll be sending the photos to Ian as soon as he's done, so hopefully we'll have a news story! :)
