a palomino at Glastonbury?

As I was driving back from the mudfest of Glastonbury, I spotted a red Palomino heading London-bound on the A303. It had a N-reg plate, so it might have been the earliest Palomino I've seen, or perhaps just running on older plates. Unfortunately, as a law-abiding citizen, I couldn't take a photo of it while overtaking!

Meanwhile, my van is still sat on the drive, waiting for a few minor bits of welding to pass its MOT.

Great Stuff

I used to have a Palimino. Without a doubt the best conversion ever made!

Bloody ugly though!

I have just launched a VW Camper website that i hope people can add some info about the Palimino Conersions. Class Campers

Cheers

In Defence of the Mighty Palomino!

I personally think the Palomino is one of the better looking High Top conversions, when i first got my Palomino and told my mates i had a high top Type 2, they seemed a little bit dubious, but once they saw it they all said how much more streamlined the roof looked in comparison to other more upright high tops! I must admit it's a little different, not ugly though!
Someone told me the Palomino high top was actually designed and made by Volkswagen itself, is that true?
Good luck with the Class Campers web site, get rid of the Ugly caption below the pics of the Palomino though!
Is this the first documented case of Palominoism? Just kidding!

Good one, Alex!
I think I may have to boycott this blatantly Palominoist website! High tops may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the Palomino is definitely not ugly - just unusual. Sure, I've had the 'icecream van' comments from a couple of uncultured heathens, but just in the last month, I've had several complete strangers come up to admire Claude and have a look round, and they all say how lovely he looks and spacious he is. Plus 2 of them specifically said they liked the look of the roof! So...we are not alone!

Anyway, while I'm on my soap-box, if it's show-scene looks you're after, then get a highly impractical, pretty little tin-top split screen. If you want a fantastically-designed, well fitted, roomy and totally useable camper, you can't beat a Palomino.

"You're beautiful, no matter what they say..."

I've now had my Volks for a Year, it had it's first MOT with me last Week and all it failed on was handbrake adjustment and a few blown bulbs, not bad for a 28 Year old vehicle eh?
Did you go to Beachbuggin Pippa?
Unfortunately i missed it, it's a definate for next Year though!
Did you manage to buy yourself a new, easier to put up awning Pippa?
How about some stories/experiences of Palomino ownership on here? Let's keep it interesting and stop it from going stale!

Hi Alex
Nice to hear from you again! A whole year - it's hard to believe isn't it? When Claude went for his last MOT, they failed him on having window stickers within the area of the windscreen wipers, and having low pressure in the windscreen washer bottles! How petty!

Yes, I went to Beachbuggin, and more recently, I went to Vanfest, and had a great time at both. I've sent my two attempts at campervan journalism to Ian, along with pictures from both shows, so hopefully you'll be able to read about it soon.

Yes, I did get that new awning, and I absolutely love it! I've sent a photo of it to Ian too, so you'll be able to see what it looks like. It's a Khyber Motordome classic, and I'd recommend it to anyone - it's so easy to put up, and I could definitely do it without any assistance, although I didn't actually have to go to either show on my own as it turned out!

I agree, Alex - we need to keep our little club alive! Have you got any more photos of your van? I've only even seen the one you sent in a year ago.
