Palomino Sales watch

This week, while I was distracted by the sun and uncovering my Palomino after the winter to consider how to fix his brakes, someone got a T25 Palomino off ebay for £2000 - a steal in anyone's book.

But if you're still looking for a Palomino, there's this slightly shabby example on ebay - it has some palomino features, but I'm not sure if it's not one of the sister vans, or whether it's been altered over the years. And if you're going to Glastonbury, it's practically there already.

Or there's Dominic's pristine example, available for £8495 - see his advert on dubs4sale. It is a bit orange though. See more pictures here

If anyone has any other pictures they'd like to share, email me at the address below, and I'll post them here.

Hi all, it seems like Palominos are crawling out of the woodwork to make an appearance for the Summer!
There's also an immaculate, fully restored example for sale on page 39 of this Weeks Classic Car Weekly.
It's Pastel White and is priced at £12,500

Hi
You're right - there do seem to be a few around at the moment.

I saw the tatty Palomino on ebay, and it does look like it's a proper Palomino that's had its bottom cupboards taken out and replaced at some time. It did look in quite rough condition, but it went for just £1000, so someone has still got themselves a bargain. I just hope they don't scalp it!

Dominic's Palomino is beautiful, and an absolute bargain as far as I can see from all the Flickr photos. If I hadn't gone and bought this Westy for the summer, I'd have bought it myself. But with all of these Palominos on the market, let's hope we get some new club members soon!

Ian, I've emailed you a scan of the third Claude-related magazine article if you could post it with the others. And on the subject of Claude, good news! I can have him back for August apparently! So Vanfest's a definite, and possibly Beachbuggin too.

Hi

I know that the t25 isn't as cool as the earlier versions but if you will let in a poor relation (younger sister) I would like to join your owners club.

We are the new owners of Polly the t25 that sold recently on ebay. She is in her original condition and could do with a lick of varnish and a few minor upgrades.

We have given her a clean and the curtains didn't fall apart or shrink in the wash and that's a good omen I think.

Hi Kate

Welcome to the Palomino club!
It doesn't matter if you've got a
T2 or T25, they're both superb motors. There's no snobbery here you know!
The main thing is that you like and enjoy your van, have you managed to use it yet?

Kate said...

Thanks Alex

No we want to get Polly serviced first and need to do a few minor things like replace a leaking rooflight and fit seat belts.

Polly is only 2 birth and there are 4 of us and a dog (don't know what possessed me, must have been the vw bug!) Him in doors has made a few planks for the kids to perch on at night. If it doesn't work out we can always sell the kids or take the tent! will let you know how we get on.

No roof bunks in yours then Kate?

Kate said...

No, but the side sills and roll bar make good supports for some very thick ply wood. It doesn't leave the kids much height but seem solid enough for a temporary measure. Will try to take some pics for you to post. Should I email them to you.

I read you were trying to get some Palonimo club stickers made. Did this happen as we would love to get one?

Kate

Yes - if you've got some photos, email them over... I don't think stickers ever got made.

Hi, Pippa emailed me across pictures of the stickers she designed and had made, they're quite impressive!
You can buy the roof beds from JustKampers web site, they're very simple to fit and will be a lot more comfortable than wooden planks! My Palomino came without them originally, they're pretty cheap aswell.
They also stock a fair range of universal awnings that fit the T2 and 25.

Go to www.justkampers.com
click on leisure, then beds and bedding and finally folding beds
The roof hammock beds are right at the top.
Hope this helps

Thanks I just had a look. Do you have a roll bar in your palomino's and if so is it removable? It looks like ours would get in the way of the beds. The pictures of Claud look like it is removable but then also look like it holds a bracket as well. I am so confused.
Help.

Perhaps if they were optional extras, you had to order them at the time you ordered the van, and maybe they made them differently.

£44.85 each, according to the price list!

I see what you mean about that bar across the cabin from the brochure. They're not in the T2's... perhaps the sides are likely to fall in on the T2.

We have decided to leave the "planks" up top for one child and make a bed over our feet for the second child as seen on club 80-90. It is quite comfortable (we tried it out on Saturday night on the path)and the kids seemed happy enough. The best bit is the camper won't have been modified in any way and it will be totally removable. Yes the catalogue shows it as an optional extra which the buyer of ours must have declined.

Thanks Pippa for the club stickers they are great. How many members are there now?

Hi all
Firstly, thanks for the Palomino club stickers Pippa, they're great!
Secondly, i was chatting to a guy in a local Vw shop(Tims Vws) and i got him chatting about how hard it is to set up and tune the twin Solex carbs on the vee dubs with the mentioned set up , i'm going to persevere as i'm a bit of a stickler for originality, but apparently for about £300 you can get a Weber carb conversion which is a lot less finicky etc.

It's a nice Sunny day today down south, lets hope it lasts into the weekend! I fancy a nice Palomino cooked tea down by the sea!

Dear Alex

Sounds like you do all the maintenance on your own van. To a complete novice (like me) can you give an idea of any easy things that can be done and how often. My other half is much more capable at the doing bit than me and probably able to do anything a bit more technical, but I feel that I must take Pippa as an example and learn a bit of the doing stuff myself.

Thanks
Kate

Polly now has her roof light replaced and is leak free, CD player installed and working , second child bed made and fitted. Lots of replacement bits and pieces on order to improve her cosmetic appearence (although I think she is beautiful just as she is). So well on our way to getting on the road.

Alex, my other halfs response to me doing any maintainence was :-

"KATE STEP AWAY FROM THE VAN"

Good news about how your van is coming on Kate, you've inspired me to get my sky light fixed, i've had my van for 2 Years this August and the sky light is exactly the same as when i got the van, i.e stuck closed and sealed up, where did you get the skylight/work done?

Kate said...

Alex

We bought the sky light from a local camping shop(camperlands)Cost an arm and a leg at £55 as it was a 15 inch one and not the standard 18 inch type which are about £30. But my other half fitted it with no major problems (the darling). It needed cutting down slightly as the depth of the sky light was to deep for the van roof. Nothing a hack saw couldn't put right. Didn't take him to long to do either.

Guy said to say:- bed the sky light down with none drying mastic not silicone as this drys and crack and then leaks.
